Omaha MeNetwork, a Boulder, Colo.-based mobile marketing platform, recently raised a second angel round of about $500k, a "similar range" to its first round one year ago, the startup's CEO, Mike Corbisiero, said in a phone interview on Friday. Though MeNetwork's headquarters aren't in Omaha, one of its co-founders, Craig Paige, and two of its board members, Paige and TreeTop Ventures partner William Fisher, reside in the city. TreeTop, a startup services firm … read more

Omaha There is hope … even for an old dog like me. My kids (and even my grandkids) are loaded with iPods, iPhones, iPads and everything else technologically advanced that starts with a vowel. My oldest grandson, Jackson, (7 years old) laughs at me when he tries to figure out why I can't manage to help him get Super Mario to a higher level. It's not that I am technology challenged; it is just that I am a little slow to change. Eventual … but slow. … read more

Omaha This past week, a colleague and I spent time reviewing the various application forms required to qualify for the Angel Tax Credit Program that was approved by the legislature in May of this year. I have to say that I was pleased with the overall clarity of the application process. This will clearly be a piece of legislation that helps our state grow jobs! Now, having said that, it isn’t a slam dunk to get the process nailed down but after spending a couple of days sorting and re-reading the guidelines, I think we got it. read more

Omaha It takes two to tango…and negotiate. Therefore, there are typically two sides any negotiation and if you are able to figure out both sides, you will be successful more often. Simple case; take a used automobile. Unlike a new car that has a sticker price, the used car is priced subject to a variety of different things. Miles, year, options, history, location … these all play a part. The seller has a price they are asking (and a price they will take). The buyer has … read more

Basically, we asked you, our readers, "Who's looking for feedback and who's willing to give it?" As expected, our community generously responded. At the … read more

Omaha In William Fisher's post this morning, "Sorry…but your baby is ugly!", the serial entrepreneur and angel investor made no apologies for the honest and direct feedback he regularly gives to entrepreneurs who pitch their ideas to him. "I try to inject humor; I try to be direct," Fisher wrote, "I try to let them know that it is only my opinion and that others may easily see the beauty in their creation." Though Fisher … read more

Omaha I remember when I was a kid and my two sisters and I would load up in the Buick to go to Grandma Fisher’s house or maybe one of my aunts/uncles. Why do I only remember that we loaded up to go to grandma’s or maybe one of our aunts or uncles? Because, for the most part, that is the only place we ever went…to visit family. That’s what you did "back in the day." We were four years apart and I was the middle child; yikes! It typically didn’t take very long for one of us (usually my little sister provoked by me or my older sister … read more

Omaha (Editor's Note: Help us welcome William Fisher, a new regular guest contributor to Silicon Prairie News! In his series kicking off today, View from the FishBowl, Fisher will be contributing articles aimed at helping entrepreneurs in our region.) Recently, I was asked by Silicon Prairie News (SPN) to contribute articles on a frequent basis to their readers. In fact, they asked if it would be ok to "syndicate" me on SPN. Given my small town background, I was both honored (syndication…visions of Larry King, Stern or Oprah) and curious…what would I have to offer to readers that are mostly … read more
