Des Moines I love that our friends in the larger publications in Des Moines are writing more and more about the startup community in the area (did you see Juice just highlighted "The Startup Scene" as part of their "Hot in Des Moines" issue?), and I was especially excited to see that the Business Record ran a story on entrepreneurial education in Iowa's largest universities, "Students see benefits to entrepreneurial studies." Cedar Falls I remember from "The Republic" that Plato once said “Necessity is the Mother of invention”. Sure, I didn’t really read it, but my 10th grade English teacher still thinks so. Cedar Falls My first official post here at Silicon Prairie News is on an organization that I’m closely tied with, MyEntre.Net, a division of my employer, the Incubation Services at the University of Northern Iowa. Truth be told, my editor actually requested that MyEntre.Net be my first topic. MyEntre.Net has come to be the face and a huge part of what we do at UNI to foster entrepreneurship locally, around the state of Iowa and beyond. MyEntre.Net was… read more

Omaha (Left: Me fiddling around on the internet and not learning how to program. Photo by Tony Noecker.) Since gaining a serious interest in the tech industry just over four years ago and having lamely remained just an "ideas guy" since, my appreciation for those who either know how to code or pick it up as they go has grown exponentially. I often think about one day dumping my bucket of ideas into a post… read more
