Maker Faire returns June 29-30 with more than 300 interactive booths at Union Station.
The call for makers has closed, but Union Station is gearing up to open its doors to DIYers for the two-day Maker Faire Kansas City from June 29-30.
This will be the third local iteration—once again part of the 1Week KC celebration—of what is now a global event that spawned from the Bay Area seven years ago. Guided by MAKE Magazine and Maker Faire, the focus is kept on local makers in a celebration of “things people create themselves” and demonstrations of what and how people are creating, inventing and making.

If you’re drawn to tinkering, hacking and reusing materials technology, this is your community. According to the Maker Faire Kansas City Facebook page, that community encompasses “scientists, engineers, students, welders, software developers, hackers, circuit benders, musicians and crafters.”
More than 300 interactive booths will showcase a wide range of products and interests, including robots, urban farming, woodworking, alternative energy and electronics. And while the booths are locked up, volunteers still are needed—attend an orientation and work at least one 3- to 4-hour shift to get a day pass, T-shirt and food voucher in return.
Maker Faire runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 pm. Sunday. There are a number of ticket options, including a $10 day pass for adults and $17.50 for both days. Make like a herd and corral a group of 15-plus for rates of $6 and $11.50, respectively. All tickets include admission to Science City, the science center within Union Station.
