Kansas City-based CobrappsBriefcase is working to attract students, so it seems like a perfect match to have them working on the inside. The startup—a recent graduate of SparkLabKC‘s inaugural accelerator class—has teamed with Rockhurst University‘s Helzberg School of Management to take part in its capstone class.

Undergraduate and graduate students can choose which companies they want to work with as a final project to tie in their classwork with real-world experience. In the past, companies like Sprint, Hallmark, DST and Cerner have been involved. This time, 15 students decided to work with the startup, which aims to be a career resource for students through real-time push notifications and job board aggregation. In fact, this is the first startup to work with Rockhurst’s capstone program.

Co-founder and CEO Christian Fisher said an angel investor involved with Cobrapps—Briefcase is its first product—placed a call in to the dean of Rockhurst and quickly there was interest in having the startup work with students. He said it’s an opportunity to intern with the company to develop marketing strategies and business plans, areas any startup could use a lot of help with.

“This project is an outstanding learning opportunity in that it allows students to interact with real world leaders and managers who are creating a new enterprise,” said associate professor Randy Schwering, Ph.D. “The students learn about many of the challenges inherent in starting a business to include strategy formation, marketing, product development, financing and business process design.”

Briefcase has been in partnership talks with DST and Innovation Campus at the University of Central Missouri, along with other Kansas City staples. Fisher said the company also is in the final stages of a licensing deal.
