Omaha A film five years in the making for Nik Facker, the now 26 year-old writer and director from Omaha, opens in two theaters in his hometown today. First released in New York and Pennsylvania on September 10, Fackler's "Lovely, Still" will play in 18 states before its DVD release on November 9. At 12:30 p.m. today, the film opens at Marcus Midtown Crossing Theatre and Marcus Village Pointe Cinema. Earlier this month, we highlighted Fackler in our series "Nebraska Film: An Exploration of the Growing Community." Omaha Last November, the newly-opened Marcus Midtown Cinema played host to Oscar-winning actor Martin Landau for an exclusive showing of his latest lead acting role, "Lovely, Still". The man of the hour, however, was one 56 years younger than Landau, Nik Fackler. The film's 25 year-old writer and director (now 26), was in his hometown to present his first feature film. Fast forward 10 month to today, the film is opening in New York and Pennsylvania. read more

When Film Streams opened in Omaha's North Downtown district in the summer of 2007 it revealed its lofty mission: "Enhance the cultural environment of the Omaha-Council Bluffs area through the presentation and discussion of film as an art form." The nonprofit art-house theater, which has the involvement of accomplished Omaha natives Alexander Payne and Kurt Anderson, set about achieving its goal through programming, from first-run films to partnerships with nonprofits.
