Reddit last week announced the itinerary for its Internet 2012 Bus Tour, an eight-day, seven-stop, campaign-style bus tour advocating for the Open Internet. From Oct. 5-8, the bus will make four stops in the Silicon Prairie region, partnering with local supporters for events in Lincoln, Des Moines, Iowa City and Kansas City.

“The Internet 2012 Bus will collect and share stories from Americans throughout the heartland, because this isn’t just about Silicon Valley,” reddit co-founder and Open Internet advocate Alexis Ohanian said in a promotional video for the tour. “It’s about parents taking Skillshare classes on blogging in Boulder, TED Meetups in Omaha … artists in Missouri who can now sell to the world on Etsy.”

The video also gives nods to Dwolla – “a company building the future of money from Des Moines,” Ohanian said – and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. Both are partnering with the bus tour to host events.

Here are the tour stops posted in reddit’s partial bus itinerary:

Reddit’s announcement also revealed that an entrepreneur from AgLocal will be riding the bus, which plans to makes stops at some of the farms and restaurants benefiting from the Kansas City area startup.

For more on the tour, which coincides with the presidential and vice presidential debates, see our earlier post, “On upcoming tour, reddit co-founder to seek stories of internet’s impact“, and reddit’s announcement, “Internet 2012 Bus Tour – A Campaign to Promote the Open Internet“.

Reddit is covering the hard costs of the tour, but it’s seeking donations on Indiegogo to fund a bus graphic wrap, hold events and document the experience.
