Grain and Mortar, a new strategy, branding and design company, will open its doors tonight from 6-9 p.m. at the Mastercraft Building (1111 N 13th St.) to celebrate the grand opening of their studio and website launch.
The event, free to the public, will celebrate the company that has recently formed after combining the graphic designers, web developers and brand strategists behind DownsDesign and Image Made.
The new name speaks to this merger and of their collaborative Midwest values, honesty and hard work. Their use of mustache icons and symbols (see bottom photo), on the other hand, speaks to their personality, and tonight’s “mustache bash” of sorts will serve as a way for the Omaha community to see the faces and facial hair of the growing company.
“It’s rare that businesses come together from a very organic and honest place,” Eric Downs, creative director and one of the three owners of the design company said in a recent press release. “But that’s exactly what happened with us. I saw that Mike and Kristin (Dekay of Image Made) had strong values of hard work and great integrity. That got the wheels turning for me. If we got together, I thought, this would be a great partnership.”

The open house party will take place at the Mastercraft Building down the hallway from CAMP Coworking, the space where the two Omaha groups met and co-worked together since June 2010.
Mustaches have become a quirky part of the new Grain & Mortar branding and as promised on the Facebook event will also be a party favor provided at tonight’s open house. Photo from Grain & Mortar’s Facebook
