Lincoln (Guest post by David Graff.) When we started Hudl in May 2006, we felt strongly that having the right benefits in place was going to be key for helping us build the right workplace environment and making Hudl a place our employees would brag about to their friends and family. Even though my two cofounders and I didn't pay ourselves any salary that year, the day we hired our first intern we started stocking pop and snacks and offering company-sponsored lunches once a week. As soon as we hired our first full-time employee in March 2007, we started offering what we considered to be the core benefits: fully-paid health insurance for any employee, discounted health insurance for their family, and discounted dental and … read more

Lincoln Hudl's rapid growth hasn't come without a little collateral damage. Like that second-story landing at Hudl's office in Lincoln. The spot has been a popular place for employees to play basketball, but it won't be for much longer. “Unfortunately, it's probably going to end our summer basketball league as they tear that building down and rebuild it," Hudl CEO David Graff said. "But we’ll make the sacrifice in order to get more office space." Such is life these days for Hudl, which makes web-based video analysis and coaching tools for sports teams. From office space to client base, the company is growing by every discernable metric. … read more

Lincoln The high school sports offseason is, it appears, prime shopping season for Hudl. For the second offseason in a row — and the second time inside a calendar year — Hudl has purchased its largest competitor. The Lincoln company, which makes web-based video analysis and coaching tools for sports teams, today announced it has acquired APEX Sports Software of Lower Burwell, Penn. Hudl paid cash, giving up no equity in the deal. No APEX employees will join the Hudl team, which currently stands at 54 employees. Today's news comes just 11 months after Hudl's July 2011 purchase of Digital Sports Video (DSV), which at the time was the second-largest player … read more

Omaha Today, one of the men delivered the keynote speech at an event hosted by the school named after the other man. And, for the most part, Doug Burgum and Jeff Raikes conducted themselves with the sort of decorum expected of a couple of former high-ranking Microsoft executives. But on Thursday night, Burgum and Raikes more closely resembled the computer kings of comedy. Around these parts, Raikes is often cast as the quintessential local boy … read more

Austin 4:45 a.m. - Wake up. This is one of those rare trips where I am flying out of Lincoln, so wake up is only 1 hr. 15 min. before my flight. | 7 - 9 a.m. - Layover in Minneapolis. Nothing like heading north before you fly south, but I've gotten used to the routine. Last year, I flew over 130K miles on Delta Airlines. The airport is buzzing this morning – every Austin flight is booked tight … read more

Lincoln Hudl’s crib may not feature a 450-square-foot bed adorned with the Superman logo (a la Shaquile O’Neal's) or an on-site helicopter pad (like 50 Cent's). But, rest assured, the Lincoln-based startup's space has its fair share of creature comforts. Hudl, which makes web-based video and analysis tools for sports coaches, highlights some of those amenities in a video … read more

Des Moines Last week, our guest on PrairieCast, David Graff of Hudl, spoke about a project the company undertook last year, awarding a pack of special Hudl T-shirts to each of Hudl's high school clients that won a state title. The shirts, which read "Dominate" on the front and "State champs 2010" on the back, were printed in the schools' colors and were distributed to more than 50 teams nationwide. If there was any thought of this being a one-time … read more
