Things have been going pretty well for Des Moines startup Change—the point-of-sale app just surpassed 225,000 transactions, garnered 10,000 downloads and its team is prepping to unveil a new feature.

So the Change team decided a celebration was in order. And what, you may ask, will that celebration be?

A competitive eating challenge, of course.

This isn’t the first time Change has celebrated milestones with a food-related challenge—last June the startup hosted an eating contest at Des Moines craft hotdoggery Hotshots. Now the team will host a second iteration of the Change Challenge at Tacopocalypse, a taco shop in Des Moines’ East Village.

For the last challenge, Hotshots created a custom “Change Dog”—an andouille sausage topped with red beans and rice, pickled ginger and Louisiana hot sauce—and this time will be no different. The Change Challenge’s brave competitors will devour “The Hot Mess Express,” a dish with undisclosed ingredients created by Tacopocalypse’s owner, Sam Auen.

But Auen’s no stranger to the Change Challenge—he participated in the inaugural Challenge, ultimately bested by Chris Ford of Christopher the Conquered.

Join Change on Wednesday, April 16, at 2 p.m. at Tacopocalypse, 621 Des Moines Street, to find out what exactly “The Hot Mess Express” is and help the team celebrate its successes.
