Sioux City Launch Week kicks off today with a wide range of events aimed toward engaging northwest Iowa’s entrepreneurial community and building a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Launch week is organized by Iowa’s West Coast Initiative, led by the economic development organizations in Plymouth, Monona and Woodbury counties, which are working together to increase entrepreneurial activity in northwest Iowa and support small business growth.

According to iawestcoast.com, the regional partners host networking events for entrepreneurs to make key connections, organize business idea competitions for a chance to win startup capital, provide specialized educational programs and technical assistance, and identify new resources and programs that will benefit our local entrepreneurs.

From today until the 15th, Launch Week participants have the opportunity to connect with other entrepreneurs, small business owners, community leaders, city representatives and other like-minded people at the week’s wide range of events:

STEM Festival – Nov. 8
The STEM Festival will feature over 20 exhibitors with hand-on STEM activities for children of all ages. This is a family-friendly event that is free and open to the public. The first 300 guests will also receive a free dinner from local food trucks.

Launch It College Games – Nov. 9-11
Create a business in a weekend! Launch It College Games is a weekend long event which brings college students, from all areas of study, together to experience the entrepreneurial culture.

Biz Brew – Nov. 14
Biz Brew is a casual networking event which brings people together who are interested in fostering a startup community and creating a positive environment for businesses to grow. Stop by after work and enjoy beverage specials, free pizza and great conversation!

Dream Big Grow Here Pitch-Off Competition – Nov. 15
In September, entrepreneurs submitted their dream to start or expand a business in the Northwest Iowa Dream Big Grow Here grant contest and recruited family, friends and customers to vote for their entry. Over 17,000 total votes were cast and the five finalists will have the opportunity to present their idea to an audience and judges in a pitch-off event for a chance to win thousands in cash prizes.
