Prairie Portrait: Cameron Webb of Sqwiggle

I do what I do because… remote working sucks and I want to make it just as good (or better!) than in an office setting.

Prairie Portraits is a weekly set of questions intended to help the community get to know someone from the Silicon Prairie startup scene a little bit better. Prairie Portraits feature a fixed set of questions ranging from career background and personal preferences to, perhaps, off-the-wall questions on YouTube videos and entrance music.

Name: Cameron Webb
Title/Occupation: iOS Magician at Sqwiggle
Age: 27
Hometown: Carroll, Iowa
Current city: West Des Moines, Iowa
Twitter: @webbc

Personal

Title of my autobiography: “Went There: The Ballad of Cameron Webb”
Thing I can’t live without: My iPhone
Drink of choice: Beer. Specifically, Drafty Kilt by Monday Night Brewing in Atlanta.
Last book I read: Does Wikipedia count?
Ultimate road trip snack: Beef jerky
Entrance song if I was a wrestler: “Kickstart My Heart” by Mötely Crue
Celebrity doppelgänger: I don’t know. Google is failing me…
Guilty pleasure band and/or film: Never guilty for everything I listen to/watch.
Chosen career in an alternate reality: Astronaut
Worst OCD tendency: When people say “can” in wrong context
Quote I might have said:  “Come at me bro, but if you can’t back it up I’ll come right back at you.”
Which actor or actress, and why: Michael J. Fox—he got to drive a time machine.
Favorite YouTube video: “How to Make an iPhone App”—My old iPhone was destroyed in the making of that video 🙂

Local

Best place in Des Moines no one knows about: No answer just yet.
Des Moines’ obligatory tourist stop: Iowa State Fair…when it’s actually going on.
One thing Des Moines has that other Silicon Prairie cities don’t: It’s in Iowa. What’s better than that?
Best thing going for Des Moines’ startup community: StartupCity DSM!
Last local restaurant I ate at: Urban Grille
Best meal I’ve had in Des Moines: Louie’s Wine Dive
Des Moines would be better if… it had an NFL team. Just ask Fred Bauters about this one.

The Startup Scene

Social media pet peeve: #YOLO
App I’m obsessed with: Unreleased Sqwiggle iPad app 🙂
Silicon Prairie startup crush: Hudl. Cuz sports!
Most comfortable startup T-shirt I own: APIs and IPAs shirt from ATL
Something most people don’t know about me: I like to travel a lot.
Entrepreneur I most want to grab a drink with: Mark Cuban
I do what I do because… remote working sucks and I want to make it just as good (or better!) than in an office setting.
Before I was in startups… I was a back-end Java engineer working for a sports data company.
If money wasn’t an object, my next company would be… awesome. I wish I had a better answer, but I’m really not sure what’s next.
The Silicon Prairie startup scene is missing… a high-speed rail between all cities. I don’t want to drive to meet with people. I want a high-speed rail to get to KC and Omaha to get to other startup events!
In five years, I’ll… be five years older.
In five years, the Silicon Prairie… will be dominating the world.
