This summer eastern Iowa will have more than one accelerator program of sorts. The Iowa Startup Accelerator may kick off later this summer, but the University of Iowa doesn’t want students to miss out on the action.

Led by the University’s Venture School, the Student Startup Accelerator will help students take action on their business ideas.

Beginning May 27, 10 teams will participate in a 10-week program with up to $10,000 in potential funding for each. The teams will be capped at three students, and teams will meet weekly with mentors and course instructors to present their progress. The accelerator also will have a demo day this fall during Iowa City’s Innovation Week.

The program’s teaching team includes lead instructor Kurt Heiar, Geonetric CEO and Iowa Startup Accelerator managing director Eric Engelmann and IPC of Iowa president Kimm Harris.

All applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program or have recently graduated. Current University of Iowa students can receive three semester credit hours for the Advanced Business Planning class.

The application deadline is April 27 and interested teams or individuals can apply online
