Roughly three and a half years ago, before the plans for StartupCity Des Moines had started to come together, the city’s entrepreneurial community came together to discuss what would best serve its ecosystem.
Now StartupCity’s organizers are asking the Des Moines startup community to come together again to discuss its needs as a whole as the space’s original three years of funding comes to an end. In January, StartupCity announced funding through Sept. 2014, but a plan for what happens after has yet to be determined.
“A lot has happened in the technology community across Iowa since November 2010,” a StartupCity blog post reads. “We have more co-working spaces, incubators, angel investor groups and venture capital firms, and a wealth of educational programs. At the same time, Iowa startups have matured considerably, and are receiving investment and national recognition on a regular basis.
“What was needed then may be different than what is needed moving forward. The market has shifted, and perhaps StartupCIty needs to shift to (or make way for) what’s next.”

The town hall meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, in the Caddyshack conference room at StartupCity, 317 6th Ave., 5th floor, in Des Moines. Previously co-workers and residents of StartupCity had a similar town hall meeting, but Thursday’s meeting will be open to the public and feedback and suggestions are welcome “from interested stakeholders, startup and anyone else who thinks that the tech startup community is a critical component for the long-term success of business in Iowa.”
