Silicon Prairie News is thrilled to welcome entrepreneur, innovator, author and sustainable food system activist Ellen Gustafson to Big Omaha this year.

Over the past decade, Ellen has gained extensive experience developing the conversation and examining the compelling juxtaposition of the incline in both starvation and obesity. Food Tank, FEED, The 30 Project and Change Dinner haveall been endeavors she has initiated in the effort to modify the perception and understanding of the malnutrition discussion.

Environmentally sustainable solutions for hunger, obesity and poverty are topics all researched and addressed by Food Tank, and the well-known bags can be purchased to aid in the support of malnourished children by providing several meals with each purchase. Over the past 30 years, both obesity and starvation rates have risen across the world, and 30 Project is making the effort to more fully understand that topic. As if all the research and awareness of food systems wasn’t enough, Ellen also is working to modify the current system by which the world is fed through Change Dinner.

By increasing awareness and impacting the understanding and actual implementation of food systems across the world, Ellen has changed the perception of processes associated with feeding the world population. In the meantime, she also has aided in providing more than 75 million school meals to children in need.

Ellen was recognized by Fortune magazine as one of the Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs and also was placed on Inc. magazine’s “30 Under 30” list. She has given TED Talks about food processes and systems as well as lectures at the Italian Parliament and several top U.S. universities.

Ellen’s entrepreneurial track record gives her an amazing platform to share experiences and provide context to the ever-changing world of food. We hope you’ll join her and the rest of our speakers this May—you can purchase your ticket at bigomaha.com for $499 until March 14.
