This holiday season, startups around Iowa are making an effort to give back to the less fortunate. The Des Moines-based Dwolla team came together to work with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa and ensure a single mother and her four children have a brighter Christmas. “I feel lucky I have what I have,” Dwolla’s Lacey Powers told the Des Moines Register. “Knowing that some people don’t get to enjoy some of those things, it breaks my heart. Everybody can do something small, and it will make a huge difference to this family.” StartupCity Des Moines and Goodsmiths also are coordinating a needed items and toy drive through Children & Families of Iowa. Donations for the drive will be accepted through Dec. 19 and a bake sale also will be hosted that day to benefit the organization. — Source: Des Moines Register
