Former Silicon Prairie News COO Geoff Wood and Christopher New, owner of Event1 Video, are teaming up to bring a weekly startup-centric podcast back to the Iowa tech community.

Within hours of launching a Kickstarter campaign to help support the cost of the podcast last Friday, the project was fully funded and has continued to surpass the pair’s initial $1,000 goal. Wood told Silicon Prairie News he believes the response stems, at least in part, from a need across the region for this type of outlet.

The project was created in conjunction with Wood’s recently launched company, Welch Avenue, which also produces a weekly round-up of Iowa’s top startup news in the form of a newsletter. While working for SPN, Wood produced and hosted Prairie Cast—a similarly themed weekly—which was discontinued last year.

With 23 days still left in the campaign, backers have pledged more than $4,200 to help fund the weekly podcast. Intially the pair planned to create 10 episodes, however, thanks to the additional funding, Wood says there will now be 20 episodes with two on-sight shows broadcast from Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.

The pair plans to film the weekly podcast at Green Grounds Cafe in Valley Junction following 1 Million Cups Des Moines. The first installment is set to be recorded on Wednesday, August 14.
