myEDmatch, a Kansas City-based job-matching site for educators, has put itself in the hunt for more than an apple or gold star. Less than a year old, the company recently won the first round of Dream Big America, the first-ever national radio show that pits startups against each other.

CEO Alicia Herald presented Tuesday against Conscious Box (Portland, Ore.) and Stemulation (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) and was chosen tops from listeners across the country. Herald, a former Teach for America executive, co-founded myEDmatch with Munro Richardson, formerly vice president of education at Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

“All three companies were really impressive,” said the show’s host, Doug Stephan. “I had no idea how America would vote, but I knew it would be close. The response from listeners, and the number of votes cast, proved how engaged the audience was. Congratulations to myEDmatch. They have a great product.”

Next up for myEDmatch is inclusion in the Finals Show on July 30, which pulls in each of the weekly winners for a final face off. More votes will roll in, and “cash, support and resources” go to the monthly victor, according to a press release.

Before then, two more Silicon Prairie companies will be part of the competition this coming Tuesday, July 16. Des Moines-based ReWall Company and Kansas City-based Looky Loo Light—which recently presented at 1 Million Cups during 1Week KC—will compete along with Froovie of Sunnyvale, Calif.

The show airs Tuesdays at 8:10 a.m. CST on Doug Stephan’s Good Day program, which has a weekly audience of 3.5 million. It’s available on the radio in 485 local markets and live on the Dream Big website. Voting begins immediately after the show and remains open for 28 hours. Text to vote—send “DBA” to 612-223-7326—or head to the website. Winners are announced at 8:50 a.m. CST every Thursday on Good Day.
