Slater, Iowa native and Iowa State University alum Steve Lee (left) recently spoke with The Des Moines Register about his decision three years ago to join the Google Glass team.

“It seemed a bit crazy at the time,” Lee, the director of Google Glass, told The Des Moines Register. “But I saw a vision that this could be compelling. I could see how it could become a whole new way for people to interact if we could achieve some technical feats.”

In 2012 Lee was named one of Fast Company’s “100 most creative people in business,” now he’s starting to redirect his attentions to the day Google Glass is available in stores. As of now, the product has only been offered to a limited number of developers and the winners of a social media contest.

“It is educating the world and letting them know that, even if they don’t buy it, it’s a good thing for the world,” he said. “They should not fear it. They should embrace it.”
