Individuals from Iowa and Nebraska’s startup communities are in Washington, D.C. today to participate in a private meeting with administration officials. Organized by the Startup America Partnership, the event is set to focus on the importance of fostering vibrant startup communities throughout the U.S.
Iowa and Nebraska have joined nine other startup regions (states), including Arizona, Colorado and Indiana, in D.C.
Startup Iowa representatives Tej Dhawan (near right), Andy Stoll, Amanda Styron, Levi Rosol and John Schnipkoweit are expected to detail a plan to make the state “the innovation hub of IT, biotechnology, and advanced manufacturing,” according to a press release. The team has four focus areas: scale, innovate, celebrate and making the area inter-disciplinary.

The plan to be presented by Startup Nebraska representatives Steve Kiene (far right) and Tom Chapman aims to create statewide partners that strengthen businesses, especially in traditional sectors like agriculture, energy, water and transportation.
Among notable officials in attendance will be U.S. CTO Todd Park, U.S. Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank and White House Deputy Director for Science/Tech Thomas Kalil, according to a Startup America Partnership representative. The organization’s chairman, Steve Case, will also be present.
The event, which follows the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation‘s State of Entrepreneurship Address today – watch the live-stream – takes place from 3-4:30 p.m. local time.
