Feast on a cornucopia of video from Startup Weekend Kansas City

We’re hard-pressed to think of a Startup Weekend anywhere in the region that’s been documented as thoroughly with video as last weekend’s Startup Weekend Kansas City. We’re hard-pressed to think of a Startup Weekend anywhere in the region that’s been documented as thoroughly with video as last weekend’s Startup Weekend Kansas City.

And although we can’t claim credit for the video work — that credit belongs to SWKC’s organizers, the in-house video gurus at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and Shane Guiter from Kansas City Public Television — we can compile it all in one place, in an easily digestible form, under a seasonally appropriate title.

For those not familiar with Startup Weekend, it’s a weekend-long event, held across the globe, that’s designed to teach participants how to build the foundation of a viable business. And, thanks to all the video captured last weekend in Kansas City, the uninitiated can get a good idea of the Startup Weekend process from start (60-second pitches on Friday night) to finish (judges’ verdicts delivered after Sunday night presentations).

So, without further ado, enjoy a video timeline of the sixth Startup Weekend Kansas City. And, for additional details, check out our previous coverage of the event.

Friday pitches

About 100 participants gathered on Friday night at the Kauffman Foundation, and more than 50 delivered 60-second pitches of their ideas.

The video above, from the Kauffman Foundation on Livestream, features all those pitches.

Saturday check-ins

Teams formed Friday night around 18 of the ideas pitched, and they spent the waning hours of Friday night, all of Saturday and most of Sunday building minimum viable products, developing business plans and preparing pitches. In the midst of all that, teams provided occasional status reports to the rest of the group.

The video above, from Startup Weekend Kansas City on YouTube, features the check-in from BroVille, which was runner-up at SWKC. The rest of the Saturday updates are available on YouTube.

KCPT covers SWKC

KCPT’s Guiter was on hand during the weekend to get behind-the-scenes perspectives on the event from SWKC participants, organizers and sponsors.

The video above, from Kansas City Public Television on YouTube, features an interview with Kelly Tomlinson of Wazoo, which won SWKC. Several other short interviews from the weekend can be found on the KCPT YouTube page.

Sunday presentations

Of the 18 teams that formed Friday, 16 survived the weekend and presented at the Sunday night finale. Each group gave a five-minute pitch and answered a few minutes of questions from a panel of judges.

The two videos above, from the Kauffman Foundation on Livestream, features all those pitches in their entirety.

Judges’ verdicts

As the event concluded on Sunday, the judges offered brief remarks about all 16 teams. They deemed Wazoo the winner, BroVille runner-up and Shop Startup third-place finisher. A handful of other teams received speciality awards.

The videos above, from the Kauffman Foundation on Livestream, features the entire award process.
