With Better Nest, Rodrigo Neri enhances Twitter.com

Kansas City August 15, 2012 by Danny Schreiber

Rodrigo Neri, creator of the MyHomework app, on Tuesday released a side project he calls Better Nest, a Chrome and Firefox extension that adds features, such as a recent follower list, to the current Twitter.com layout.

"I've tried all kinds of Twitter clients for my Mac and didn't find one that really satisfied me," Neri said in a personal blog post, "so when Twitter created the #NewNewTwitter I decided to stick with the website version. But that still wasn’t enough for me."

After installing the browser extension, Twitter users will see three new features appear on Twitter.com:

  • Followed/Unfollowed List - Creates two sidebar lists, "Followed Me" and "Unfollowed Me," that display recent followers and unfollowers
  • Me on This Day - Creates a sidebar list that shows tweets from one year ago, a feature similar to TimeHop
  • Fixes "New Tweets" Scrolling - Neri describes the feature: "Every time I click on the 'X New Tweets' link the list scrolls all the way to the top and I always lose the spot that I was when I read the last tweet. This feature fixes that, it shows the new tweets above the current one, similar to the Twitter iOS apps."

Better Nest is on a branch all of its own, according to Neri. He said there are Chrome extensions, such as Twitter Extender and Twitter Refresh, that enhance some of Twitter.com's feature, but not the ones that Better Nest provides.
