When we last checked in on VoterTide in late July, the Omaha startup, which makes social media monitoring and intelligence software for politics, had begun to find success selling its product to media outlets.
Now, with less than a week remaining before the Republican National Convention and under two weeks until the Democratic National Convention, VoterTide has reeled in one of the biggest fish in the political media pond.
The startup announced today it is partnering with The Washington Post to provide social media tracking and analysis for the Post’s video coverage of the 2012 Republican and Democratic Conventions.
“We’re excited to be working with such a forward thinking news organization,” VoterTide CEO Jimmy Winter said in a release. “Combining video with real-time online reactions will shed light onto what’s truly resonating with the people and what’s merely a flat talking point.”

The Post will stream video of the presidential and vice presidential speeches during the conventions, displaying time-coded transcripts alongside the video. To augment that, VoterTide will provide user reactions as they happen on Twitter and furnish analysis of social data.
The video will be streamed live on the Post’s website and Facebook, and it will be available for streaming on most mobile devices. The video coverage will make its debut with Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan at the GOP convention on Aug. 29.
“We are taking The Post’s online video experience to a new level,” the Post’s Cory Haik said in a release. “By incorporating transcripts and working with VoterTide, users will be able to engage with our video in new ways by seeing the social reaction and comparing the conversations.”
