One week from today, more than 400 entrepreneurs, investors, creatives, professionals and others will gather at the Joslyn Art Museum on the edge of downtown Omaha for our inaugural Silicon Prairie Awards. At the event, 12 companies and individuals will be recognized for their outstanding products, strong leadership and noteworthy contributions to the community the past year.

A limited number of tickets still remain. All, from startup founders to friends and families to startup enthusiasts from afar, are invited to join us for this community celebration. The night includes an opening reception, a keynote talk from TechStars founder and CEO David Cohen, a closing party and, of course, a few surprises.

In anticipation of the event, here’s an overview of what attendees can expect from this new event by the team that produces Big Omaha and Thinc Iowa.

6 p.m. – Opening Reception presented by Bellevue University

Doors open at 6 p.m., and festivities begin in the Storz Fountain Court (above). At the opening reception, which is presented by Bellevue University, attendees will enjoy a complimentary drink and spread of hors d’oeuvres. This hour-long reception will also feature our Startup Alley presented by Lightbank, providing an opportunity for nine Silicon Prairie startups to demo their products.

7 p.m. – Awards celebration

Following the opening reception, attendees will progress into the Witherspoon Concert Hall (above) for the awards celebration. After a few words from the Silicon Prairie News team, our presenters will hand out the highly-anticipated hardware. At the midway point, our keynote speaker, David Cohen, will take the stage to share his insights on a startup community.

Keynote speaker: David Cohen, TechStars

Cohen, from Bouder, Colo., has built one of the nation’s most respected startup accelerators. Cohen also has exhibited great passion for building entrepreneurial communities. When he takes the stage at the Joslyn, he’ll share lessons learned from TechStars and Boulder.

To learn more about Cohen, see our previous post: “Hear TechStars founder David Cohen at the Silicon Prairie Awards event“.

9 p.m. – Closing Party presented by Hudl

The closing party presented by Hudl will put an exclamation point on the big night as ticket holders enjoy drinks and a complimentary snack bar. Starting immediately after the awards celebration, the party will be held in the Storz Fountain Court.

Who should come and what should you wear?

All are invited. There’s room for more than 400 people, and we plan to pack the place. Whether you’re the CEO of a startup or the newest hire, an angel investor or a VC, an educator or a mentor, or just an enthusiast from afar, we hope you’ll join us for this new celebration. And for those wondering, the evening’s attire is startup suave.
