Barcamp set to return to Cedar Falls Oct. 5-6
Barcamp, the attendee-generated "unconference" held in cities across the globe, will return Oct. 5-6 to Cedar Falls, Iowa. Organizers announced the date for the event last week, and $5 tickets are on sale now.
Barcamp Cedar Valley kicks off with a pre-party from 7-9 p.m. on Oct. 5. The venue for that get-together has not been announced. Saturday's events run from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and will take place inside the University of Northern Iowa's Business and Community Services Building (8120 Jennings Drive).
For those unfamiliar with Barcamp, here's more courtesy of the Cedar Valley event's website:
… it’s a get-together for creatives, entrepreneurs, developers and others in the Cedar Valley where pleasantries, business cards and, most importantly, knowledge will be exchanged.
Anyone can talk about anything, but no one is required to speak. You can just come and observe if that’s what fits your fancy. There’s no strict schedule, and you don’t even have to decide whether you want to speak until the day of the event. Not sure what you might talk about? Visit our Session Ideas page.
The bulk of the structured time at Barcamp consists of 20-minute talks given by attendees, who sign up to speak on the morning of the event. In the interest of generating ideas in advance of Oct. 6, Barcamp Cedar Valley's site suggests some topics:
- Discuss a book you recently read and the impact it had on you
- Lead/start a group discussion on inspiring or influential books
- Talk about a new technology you are using
- Discuss a new creative technique or tool
- Share the source of your inspiration and/or how you generate new ideas
