Wednesday Whimsy: Bobby Convey will now tout his teammates’ tweets

Kansas City July 25, 2012 by Michael Stacy

As we've discussed before, there are lots of reasons that Sporting Kansas City is widely regarded as one the most technologically savvy outfits in all of professional sports

Midfielder Bobby Convey is not one of those reasons.

Kansas City's Major League Soccer franchise has its own technology spinoff, Sporting Innovations, and a stadium, Livestrong Sporting Park, that's jam-packed with cutting-edge technology for fans.

But Convey, the man who typically roams the left wing at that stadium for the home side, doesn't know what Twitter is or why people use it. Or so we're told in a deliciously odd video series, #FollowFriday With Bobby Convey, that can be found on Sporting Kansas City's YouTube page

"All of my teammates are definitely on Twitter all of the time," Convey, adorned in a plush bathrobe and cradling a toy dog, says as he introduces the first installment (above) of the series. "I'm not exactly sure why, because I'm not exactly sure what Twitter actually is."

The second installment finds Convey submerged in a bubble-filled bathtub, again apparently bemused by Twitter. As in the first video, Convey briefly explains his disdain for Twitter before giving way to video of his teammates poking fun at each others' Twitter idiosyncrasies (Twittiosyncrasies?).

And, yes, we know the videos were released a couple months back. But, like the fine wine that Convey appears to be sampling in the bubble bath scene, the videos have only gotten better with age. Plus, with the Major League Soccer All-Star Game taking place tonight, now seems like as good of a time as any to familiarize yourself with the quirks of Sporting all-stars Aurelien Collin and Graham Zusi, who both appear in the first #FollowFriday.
