Sunday Video: Marissa Mayer on process, hiring and Yahoo!

July 22, 2012 by Danny Schreiber

Yahoo!'s announcement last week that it tapped long-time Google executive Marissa Mayer to take over as president and CEO dominated the headlines. Along with it, came in-depth looks at Mayer and, unexpectedly, more news on the new tech industry leader.

Prevalent in the coverage were excerpts from an interview Mayer did with Charlie Rose in March 2009.

"I definitely think what drives technology companies is the people; because in a technology company it's always about what are you going to do next," Mayer told Rose.

In the hour-long interview, a variety of topics are discussed, from Mayer's role in Google to her thoughts on social networks. Among the topics, however, were several that may provide insight into what we'll see from the new Yahoo! chief.

  • 3:00 - The process behind Google's innovation (embedded below)
  • 20:28 - Why Yahoo! lost its place
  • 21:27 - On hiring
  • 50:37 - Typical work day
  • 51:21 - What she'll be doing in 10 years

To watch the full interview, see Charlie Rose's website: "A conversation with Marissa Mayer, V.P. of Search Product and User Experience, Google". For a transcrpt, see TechCrunch: "Marissa Mayer On Charlie Rose: The Future Of Google, Future Of Search".
