The badge-less guide to Big Omaha 2012
Big Omaha 2012 badge not required to have this kind of fun in the Big Omaha Open Party photo booth.
Though Big Omaha is limited to 650 attendees this year, we've rounded up the best of what's out there for the badge-less bunch. Below is the agenda for how to best experience Big Omaha on a budget.
5-8 p.m. at Old Mattress Factory (501 North 13th Street)
With the goal of connecting Omaha programmers with those traveling in for the event, Beer && Code, a meetup group, is inviting all/only programmers to join them. "So many programmers come to Omaha for this conference," Beer && Code's website says, "and it just seems to obvious to get you all connected before the festivities."
6-8 p.m. at Upstream Brewing Company (514 S. 11th Street)
Calling all Iowans and fans of Iowa, the StartupIowa crew has organized a happy hour to kick off the networking and devise a game plan for the two days ahead. "StartupIowa plans to show the cornhuskers how our state parties," the party's announcement says.
6:30 p.m. at Upstream Brewing Company (514 S. 11th Street)
Just as folks from Omaha, Iowa and elsewhere are having Big Omaha pre-parties, the attendees from Nebraska's neighbors to the north plan to meet up, as well.
8 p.m. at The Slowdown (729 North 14th Street)
This is a great opportunity to meet attendees coming in from across the nation. The event has a $5 cover, but if you RSVP you'll get in for free. RSVP at bigomaha.com/openingparty.
7:30 - 8:30 at Magnolia Hotel, Lotus Room (1615 Howard Street)
Grass-roots coalition Heartland Technology Alliance will be holding one of its forums before the first day of Big Omaha talks kicks off. This "Big Omaha Edition" features former White House Office of Science and Technology chief of staff Jim Kohlenberger for a discussion on mobile technology issues, spectrum and innovation. Capacity's limited, and you can RSVP at heartlandtechalliance.org.
9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. on Silicon Prairie News
For the first time, we'll be live-streaming the 14 speaker presentations over the course of the two full days of Big Omaha. Watch the live stream and interact with the audience and twittershpere at siliconprairienews.com/live.
9 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Silicon Prairie News
The second day of talks kicks off at 9 a.m., once again. To tune in, visit siliconprairienews.com/live.
9 p.m. at House of Loom (1012 South 10th Street)
Held at one of Omaha's hottest new nightspots, the Big Omaha Closing Party must not be missed as two of the coolest sponsors have teamed up to make it a memorable night. Like the opening party, there is a $5 cover, but if you RSVP it doesn't cost a dime. RSVP at bigomaha.com/closingparty.
