Newsy today announced the availability of its channel on Roku, a streaming player.

Newsy, a Columbia, Mo.-based news startup that we originally featured last summer, delivers the news of the day in multisource videos 2-3 minutes long that highlight the key differences in reporting from media outlets around the world. Those videos are now part of Roku’s news and weather category.

Users can add the Newsy channel to their Roku player for free and get instant access to the latest Newsy videos. Newsy produces 20 videos per day in nine news categories including world, politics, tech and entertainment.

“Over-the-top delivery of content is changing how content is consumed,” Jim Spencer, the president of Newsy, said in a release. “Video is increasingly being watched on different platforms and in different places and we are thrilled to be part of Roku’s impressive service to extend our reach.”

Today’s news follows on the heels of a couple other Newsy milestones over the last month. On April 10, Newsy was named as one of five finalists for the Webby Award for best tablet news app. That makes it two years straight that Newsy’s been nominated for one of the awards, which honor “the best of the web.”

In late March, Newsy expanded its stable of offerings by releasing apps into the Windows Phone Marketplace and the Nokia Store.
