We’re looking for an ambitious journalist with an entrepreneurial bent and a love for tech news. Our focus is to tell the stories of the Silicon Prairie – a burgeoning startup community in and around Omaha, Des Moines and Kansas City. Like the companies we cover, we’re a startup, too, building a new kind of newsroom, experimenting with the way we gather, report and share our stories. This summer, we want to find a great tech and startup reporter to be a part of it.

To join the SPN newsroom, you should identify yourself as a self-starter and a go-getter. Within the first month, you’ll be assigned an interview with a startup founder, a product launch story and a recap of a entrepreneurial event. You should enjoy researching your subjects just as much as you love seeing your byline in print – through a partnership with the Omaha World-Herald, we actually see this happen.

In joining SPN, you’re joining more than a newsroom. You’re becoming part of a community catalyst that aims to see our region become a center of innovation. You should be passionate about meeting the entrepreneurs, innovators, investors and other stakeholders who make up our region. And more then getting “the story” or having hockey stick days of traffic, we aim to create long-term relationships with those individuals.

Lastly, but just as importantly, we’re searching for a storyteller, a social media sharer and a stickler for grammar and style.

Apply

To apply, complete the form below (Round 1: Paid Summer Editorial Internship).

The Silicon Prairie News summer editorial internship is a paid position of 20 hours per week starting in late May and ending in August (we’re flexible on day-to-day schedule). As we have a regional focus, we’re looking for someone based in or around the Silicon Prairie flagship cities of Omaha, Des Moines and Kansas City. The position requires you provide your own computer.

After the internship is finished, you’ll have a better understanding of the online news industry, the tech startup scene in the Midwest (and elsewhere) and, best of all, a portfolio of work to showcase to prospective future employers.

If you have questions, please contact Danny Schreiber at danny@siliconprairienews.com.

Thank you for your interest. This application has closed.
