As we’re in the middle of March Madness, this week’s Sunday Video features one of the greatest pre-game speeches of all-time, Bo Schembechler‘s “The Team.” Though it was delivered in preparation for a football game and neither for basketball nor business, Schembechler’s pep talk stresses the importance of a team better than any CEO or best-selling author could communicate.
“They can throw out all those great backs and great quarterbacks and great defensive players throughout the country and in this conference, but there’s gonna be one team that’s gonna play solely as a team,” Schembechler, the legendary football coach of the University of Michigan (1969-1989), said in 1983 before his team took the field.
“No man is more important than the team. No coach is more important than the team. The team. The team. The team.”
