Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce president David Brown presents Silicon Prairie News’ Jeff Slobotski and Dusty Davidson with the Innovator of the Year Award in October.

Among the seven awards the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce will hand out at its Big O! Excellence Awards in May, one could shed light on an up-and-coming entrepreneur or startup. The Innovator of the Year Award recognizes an individual or organization that has envisioned and executed on an opportunity, has creatively made a difference and is on a path to be a leader in their field.

In 2011, we were humbled to be the recipient of the award. As the managing editor of Silicon Prairie News, I saw that we received it in part because of our work, but more so because of the work of the companies and individuals we highlight.

With those companies in mind, we remind you that nominations for the Innovator of the Year close Friday. Companies and individuals may nominate themselves or be nominated by others. A committee of Chamber volunteers will select award winners.

The Big O! Excellence Awards luncheon is May 15 at Ramada Plaza Omaha Hotel & Convention Center. Award finalists will be released in the weeks leading up to the event, and recipients will be announced at the luncheon.

The other six categories of the Big O! Excellence Awards are: Business Woman of the Year, Corporate Citizen of the Year, Milestone, Minority Business of the Year, Nonprofit of the Year and the Small Business of the Year.
