Wednesday Whimsy: OneLouder celebrates ‘loudest day ever’

From rocking hairband-esque attire at the office to playing the same 83 minutes of film on loop all day, the guys and gals at OneLouder made sure their company lived up to its name on Friday, exceeding all reasonable limits of dedication to a mock-rockumentary in observance of “National OneLouder Day.”

The Kansas City-based developer of social mobile apps, who we last touched base with in September, derives its name from a scene in the movie “This Is Spinal Tap”, in which Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap, “the world’s loudest band,” explains why the levels on his band’s amplifiers go up to 11 rather than 10.

“If we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?

“Put it up to 11?”

“Eleven. Exactly. One louder.”

So on Friday, 11-11-11, OneLouder “put it up to 11,” so to speak, in paying proper tribute to Tufnel and crew. OneLouder announced its loud intentions with an absolute gem of a press release. “Obviously, 11/11/11 is a special day,” OneLouder president Evan Conway said in the tongue-in-cheek release. “It is a fine line between stupid and … clever. We straddle it every day. After all, how often do you get to celebrate National OneLouder Day? Once, that’s how many.”

Once, indeed. The profundity of it all is almost too much to handle. But, rest assured, OneLouder will not go quietly into the night now that 11-11-11 has come and gone.

“Though National OneLouder Day will pass into history,” the press release says, “OneLouder will endure, persevere, and continue to make every day go to eleven.”

OneLouder, which also has offices in the Dallas area and Palo Alto, got some love from a Dallas television station for its celebration of Tufnel’s vision. For that, see the video below.
