At a time when college athletic program’s conference affiliations are in an almost-constant state of flux, control of the rights to several of those conferences’ video footage is changing, too. And a Kansas City-area company has a hand in the exchange.

Digital Broadcasting Group, one of the largest producers and distributors of branded video content, announced the acquisition of Digital Sports Ventures, an Overland Park, Kan.-based company that delivers Division I college sports video and interactive applications for websites and mobile devices.

Founded as AthletixNation in 2007, the company holds rights to video footage from the Big 12, Pac-12, Big Ten, SEC, ACC, Mountain West and Conference USA. The company also has relationships with a stable of publishers that includes McClatchy, The Seattle Times and The Detroit News.

The partnership with DBG, which has offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Dallas and distributes advertisers’ inventory and original web programming across some 2,600 publishers, gives DSV greater reach.

“The opportunity to combine forces across both organizations to provide publishers with premium content on a much larger scale was an opportunity worth capitalizing on,” DSV founder and CEO Dayveon Ross (left, photo from linkedin.com) said in a release.

From DBG’s standpoint, the acquisition accelerates owned and operated content syndication efforts, namely the company’s recently introduced Content Library Platform (CLiP). CLiP provides publisher partners with DGB’s video content library and suite of management and technology tools, ideally allowing publishers to capitalize on added video ad inventory on their sites.
