As football teams across the country gear up for their seasons to start in the coming weeks, a man whose company is central to what so many of those teams hope to accomplish will update us on his own team’s outlook for the upcoming season.

John Wirtz, the co-founder and COO of Hudl, will speak Thursday night at Omaha’s monthly meeting of entrepreneurial minds, Cornstalks. Networking starts at 6:30 p.m. with snacks and beverages provided, and Wirtz’s presentation begins at 7:30 at the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce‘s downtown office (1301 Harney).

Wirtz (above, photo from hudl.com) will discuss the growth of his company, which produces web-based video and coaching analysis tools for sports teams and in a short time has evolved from a student startup to the dominant market player in its space. Clearly, Wirtz is an entrepreneur that Cornstalks organizer Tom Chapman is eager to have talk.

“Hudl/Agile Sports is arguably the most exciting startup in the Silicon Prairie region today,” Chapman said in an email. “With professional football, college athletic departments and thousands of high school clients, their various products are various and have deeply penetrated a variety of markets.”

Wirtz’s presentation isn’t the only reason folks will want to check out Cornstalks on Thursday. This month’s meeting also marks Chapman’s last in his current role as the director of entrepreneurship and innovation for the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce. As Chapman (left) announced at last month’s meeting of Cornstalks, he is moving on from the Chamber to take a job at Nebraska Global in Lincoln, and Friday is his last day.

So drop in Thursdsay to wish Chapman well. Sure, he’ll still reside in the area and continue to play a part in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, so this isn’t goodbye for good. But it seems a fitting farewell for Chapman — in his current role, anyway — that folks stop by to share in Cornstalks, a valuable event for local entrepreneurs that Chapman created and has been pivotal in sustaining.
