Now playing in Omaha and opening in Kansas City later this month, “Page One: A Year Inside the New York Times” is a must-see film for those interested in the rapidly changing landscape of journalism. Directed by Andrew Rossi, the documentary takes a behind the scenes look at the operations of the Times during a period in which turmoil in the industry brought about bankruptcy at some publications and the closing of doors at others.
While those with a journalism industry background or students studying the craft will especially enjoy Page One, the film’s storyline and interviews make it compelling for those who occasionally visit a website – or pick up the paper – to consume the day’s news.
Of course, we’re particularly interested in Page One as we work hard to build a sustainable model for delivering news on our region’s entrepreneurs and creatives. The film also hits close to home, as we’re seeing the Omaha World-Herald preparing to erect its paywall in the near future to support its business model.
