A pool of more than 1,000 applicants was whittled down to 45 finalists, and from there 23 founders of 16 companies embarked on an intensive, four-month journey as part of the Kauffman Labs for Enterprise Creation’s Education Ventures Program.

And those founders didn’t just dip their toes in the water. They dove headlong into the program, which brought together some of the brightest entrepreneurial minds in the education sector with the aim of transforming breakthrough ideas into high-growth firms.

“People quit very promising jobs; they made the leap,” said Sandra Miller, director of Kauffman Labs. “They are fully in these companies to participate in this program.”

That program culminates today at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation with 16 pitches as part of the Venture Showcase. Said Miller: “It’s been four intense months, and it’s almost over.”
