With the Opening Party presented by Rackspace kicking Big Omaha off on Wednesday, the mood will be set for the first day of presentations on Thursday. After a full day of speakers, including Aneesh ChopraShervin Pishevar and Sarah Lacy, day one will wrap up at KANEKO (1111 Jones St.) and pick up with the post-party at The Slowdown (photo, left, from theslowdown.com).

Starting at 7:30 p.m., conference-goers will have the opportunity to grab a front-row spot for The Hood Internet Concert presented by Microsoft BizSpark. Doors will open to the public at 8 p.m., and tickets will be available at the venue for those without conference badges. The Hood Internet will take stage at 9 p.m., at which time we encourage busting out your best dance moves.

From the popular stylings of Rihanna to the experimental sounds of Panda Bear, The Hood Internet, a hip-hop and indie rock mashup duo, blends radio hits with lesser known beats to create recognizable music with flair. The Chicago duo has played Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and South by Southwest and now Big Omaha, where they will bring this unique, live DJ experience to our audience.

Aside from providing an interesting modern music set for Thursday night’s crowd, The Hood Internet has a backstory that embraces the Big Omaha ideals of innovation and entrepreneurship in its own right. This project originated as a side project in 2007 through the power of creativity and the internet. By calculated reorganizations of cadences and pitches through digital editing and recording, The Hood Internet has pioneered a different way into the mashup community, and the group’s music has become a product reflective of its creative enterprises. You can get a feel for The Hood Internet’s music at thehoodinternet.com.

Away from the lights and sounds of The Hood Internet, conference- and party-goers can also gather at Goodnights. Located around the corner from The Slowdown, this venue will offer Big Omaha drink specials and a low-key atmosphere for great networking.
