The first time Jonathan George participated in Startup Weekend — April 16-17 at Startup Weekend Kansas City (SWKC) — it was as a keynote speaker and judge. Once upon a time, George, the founder and CEO of Boxcar, set the groundwork for Boxcar over the course of a weekend. But he did so without the benefit of Startup Weekend’s structure. So, what would that framework have meant to Boxcar?

“It would’ve been huge,” George said. “It would’ve changed probably the entire course of the business.”

Its lack of Startup Weekend ties notwithstanding, Boxcar is chugging along down a promising track. As we reported prior to SWKC, Boxcar’s March 31 release of its Mac app generated plenty of industry buzz. And at SWKC, George expressed optimism over headway Boxcar was making on securing a round of funding.

After George fulfilled his judicial obligations at SWKC, we caught up with him to talk about the event and get his perspectives on launching a startup in a weekend.
