It’s with great pleasure that I get to introduce you to the newest full-time member of the Silicon Prairie News team, Editor Michael Stacy (left, photo courtesy of Stacy).

As a Kansas City, Missouri native and Creighton University graduate, Michael has strong roots in the Silicon Prairie region. Over these past three years he laid the foundation for his journalism career as a reporter for the Springfield (Missouri) News-Leader.

Now, he’s ready to join our team as we dive deeper into building our newsroom, drawing from what’s been established by others and creating our guidebook and styleguide as we go.

When we posted our position for editor this past December, we were overwhelmed by the response we received. There were many excellent candidates from across the region and as far away as England, but Michael stood above the rest. His ability to tell a compelling story, and when appropriate insert a dose of humor, is unmatched. Without a doubt, he’s a wordsmith.

In addition to knowing Michael professionaly, I’ve also had the privilege of calling him a good friend since we met our freshman year at Creighton. He’s an outgoing individual with a genuine interest in the lives of others – two important qualities of a proficient journalist (especially at Silicon Prairie News where we enjoy attending networking events).

Michael will officially join us in the office next Tuesday, March 1, coinciding perfectly with another big day for us, the Silicon Prairie News – Kansas City Launch Party. If you’re in Kansas City, I hope you’re able to join us on March 1st at McFadden’s to meet Michael. If you’re in Des Moines, we’ll be making the road trip the following day to meet up with our co-worker Geoff Wood and then attend the Dwolla Meetup at Cabaret West Glen. And if you’re in Omaha, circle March 24th on your calendar, we’ll be holding our first-ever Silicon Prairie News Meetup that day (details coming soon).

Help me welcome Michael to the team in the comments below or find him on Twitter, @jmichaelstacy (yes, that’s him with no tweets, he’s new to Twitter).
