This position requires a passion for applying user-centered design principles to deliver easy, simple, effective and efficient design solutions to “wow” our users and streamline their work. You should have a track record of providing UX design leadership to product teams. Qualifications
We’re not necessarily looking for someone who meets a bullet list of educational and industry experience; we’ll know the right person when we meet them. We’d prefer someone who has, but not limited to:
- 5+ years of applied experience in interaction design and research
- 5+ years of experience using industry standard design tools including Photoshop, PowerPoint, HTML and prototyping tools
- 5+ years design or research experience in software industry, a combination of design and research skills is preferred, management experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, or related fields (a Master’s Degree is even better)
But we must have someone who:
- Has excellent communication and leadership skills
- Can be innovative, enthusiastic, flexible and creative
- Exhibits excellent project management and scheduling skills
- Is able to work independently to establish trusted relationships with partners
- Can drive cross-team collaboration
- Demonstrates an evolved sense of great design
- Can present a design portfolio that shows strong creative skills, ability to generate solid design ideas, and thorough understanding of good design process
- Is an expert with the Microsoft Expression line of products, including its use alongside Microsoft Visual Studio

- Mastery of both PSD and AI required. Our Creative Director designs mainly in Illustrator CS5, yet our Devs want web-ready art. So you must be able to work efficiently with both vector and raster, design for both web and print. At the same time, we’d appreciate a strong desire to learn new tools and systems.
Vision and style.
- Are you creative for creativity’s sake? Thanks but no thanks. We need a multifaceted creature who can design clever and intuitive interfaces without being “too” artsy. Our products require engaging user experiences with concern for usability. You must walk the line between design aesthetics and the user experience.
Positive attitude.
- How many times can you be sent back to the drawing board before you get stabby? Here, graphics face an opinion-gauntlet, from partners to clients to users to execs… Not to mention your own esteemed view. Have an innate sense of – and strong opinion about – attractive usability when it comes to web apps, and share it with a grin.
Sociability.
- We’re a dissimilar yet dogged crew—which is probably typical of a web startup. Developers can seem alien at times, and don’t even get us started on salespeople. Think you can seamlessly interact with Dev to ensure proper execution of designs? Even better, can you jump into a sales meeting and pitch ideas without messing yourself?
Work ethic.
- Believe it: slackers need not apply. If you want to get ahead, this is the place for you. We are a small and dynamic team with a lot of potential. If we wanted dead wood we would be running this ad in the forest.
