Yesterday, I published a post covering the latest announcement from SmartyPig: the addition of their SmartyPig Cash Rewards PrePaid MasterCard (left, image from smartypig.com). I neglected to call that out, however, and instead only labeled it a “prepaid MasterCard.” (Note: I’ve updated yesterday’s post: “More Options: SmartyPig rolls out prepaid MasterCard.”)
In the past, SmartyPig has offered a similar redemption option by way of a debit card, but the release of the Cash Rewards Card differs as it will give SmartyPig users an opportunity to earn up to 10% cash back from participating retailers. This is in addition to the three other redemption options SmartyPig was offering as of last Friday – retailer gift cards, ACH transfer, or a combination of the two.
Additionally, SmartyPig president and co-founder Jon Gaskell blogged about the new offering on the SmartyPig blog, “SmartyPig Kills The Competition.” Gaskell said that in the coming year they’ll be adding another 25-30,000 national retailers to the participating cash back retailer list, which launched with 9,000 local and regional retailers.
Here’s a video released this past February from SmartyPig which shows how a user can redeem his or her money from their account. Note that where it says “Prepaid Mastercard” it would now say SmartyPig Cash Rewards PrePaid MasterCard.
