As we round out 2010, and reflect on some of the major initiatives that we were involved in this year at Silicon Prairie News, the Silicon Prairie News & Big Omaha charity: water Campaign was one of the most pivotal and encouraging efforts that we accomplished as a community.

When I published the first post challenging our community to raise $5,000 for one well by the time charity: water founder Scott Harrison arrived in May for Big Omaha, I was cautiously optimistic (read the post: “Announcing the Big Omaha charity: water Campaign“). Seeing the community come together for a simple, while at the same time life-changing cause, and end up raising well over three-times as much was unbelievable.

Since then, many of you in the community have went on to donate your own birthday and hold other events to raise money for charity: water. Scott and the team at charity: water remain close to not only our hearts, but to many of you in the community, as well.

I wanted to share a recent piece from ABC’s 20/20 who highlighted the work of charity: water on their December 17th show. The following piece shares details around charity: water’s work in Central African Republic, showcasing the work that takes place in their New York office as well as the work on the ground, drilling the wells.

Watch Scott Harrison on 20/20, go to: abc.go.com/watch/2020.

Also, take a look at “Scott’s Story” page on charity: water’s website…it’s his presentation from Big Omaha! Pretty exciting stuff.

We look forward to following the progress of and great work that Scott and the charity: water team are set to accomplish in 2011!
