Global Entrepreneurship Week kicks off today. How are you celebrating?

November 15, 2010 by Danny Schreiber

Every day on Silicon Prairie News we celebrate those engaging in entrepreneurship by telling stories of individuals or covering news from startups. Furthermore, we ourselves our entrepreneurs – we're working hard to make Silicon Prairie News a successful company.

With that in mind, we turn our attention this week to the events happening around the world as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week (November 15-21), an event "connecting people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators."

We, Silicon Prairie News, unfortunately don't have any special events planned to celebrate this week, but we'd like to encourage you to view the video below to get a sense of the spirit that will be sweeping the globe. In fact, that spirit already hit parts of the world this past weekend as Startup Weekend hosted the first-ever Global Startup Battle, which consisted of 13 events in four countries.

Global Entrepreneurship Week was founded in 2008 but the Kauffman Foundation, based in Kansas City, and Enterprise UK. According to the Week's website, unleashingideas.org, this year will see more than 30,000 events occur in nearly 100 countries. To browse a directory of those events, see: Global Entrepreneurship Week Event Central.

If you're ambitious and ready to embark on a road trip today, Kauffman Foundation is hosting Kansas City's kickoff for Global Entrepreneurship Week tonight from 4 to 9 p.m. To see the full details, visit: Startup Your Idea! Also for the truly ambitious, this week is the Startup Open, a competition for startups created during Global Entrepreneurship Week. In the comments below, we encourage you to leave your thoughts about entrepreneurship. Ask yourself: "How does entrepreneurship play a role in my life?" Or, let us know of an entrepreneurship-focused event that is taking place this week. Here in Omaha, Cornstalks and BarCamp are happening – look for an event post to come with more details.
