After a successful domestic launch in April 2008, social banking startup SmartyPig reached its first overseas market, Australia, by signing a partnership with Australian & New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) in late 2008.* Today, they’ve announced a five-year extension to that partnership, which, according to a press release, includes plans to make the product available in New Zealand over the next 24 months.
Additionally, through this extended agreement, SmartyPig will explore opportunities to offer the product in Asia and build on the existing product offering for all customers.
With regards to the latter point, we expect to hear a new product announcement from SmartyPig co-founder and COO Michael Ferrari later today. Yesterday, he tweeted:
@mferrari: Am presenting at @finovate tomorrow. Announcing a new product…! (twitter.com/mferrari/status/26317420139)
