Omaha-based Proxibid, a live auction webcasting service, delivered some exciting news yesterday with the announcement of their appointment of Ryan Downs, Omaha-native and former senior vice president of Worldwide Operations for PayPal, as company president.

In short, Proxibid provides live webcasts of auctions to allow registered bidders unable to attend in-person to still participate in the auction. As of late, they’re on a roll with high-interest auctions, such as Bernie Madoff’s auction last November and the upcoming auction of “Real Housewife” Teresa Giudice later this month. A recent Wall Street Journal article reported that Proxibid now serves 800 auctions a month and bidders from 175 countries.
