Our summer intern Andrea Ciurej rocked. (Thanks Andrea!)

Last Friday was a bittersweet day in the Silicon Prairie News office. On one hand, we had the pleasure of entertaining more than a hundred guests for our two-year birthday celebration. Last Friday was a bittersweet day in the Silicon Prairie News office. On one hand, we had the pleasure of entertaining more than a hundred guests for our two-year birthday celebration. On the other, one of our ice cream social’s all-star ice cream scoopers, summer intern Andrea Ciurej (above), was wrapping up her summer internship with us.

Before I continue, here’s some awesome news to make your day: Andrea is going to continue contributing stories to Silicon Prairie News. We’ve appreciate her journalistic skills – from pursuing a story to asking excellent interview questions – and we’re thrilled that she’s determined to find time for us in her future schedule.

As for her future schedule, it’s still up in the air. We, unfortunately, were unable to bring her on full-time, and it’s really is a bummer because she’s a great fit. From her first day on the job, her dedication to our mission and work has matched ours. Her first week was Big Omaha week, and the fact that she survived the week, came out of it with a smile and asked the question “What next?” was impressive. Big Omaha is the busiest and craziest time of the year for us, and if you can put up with us at that time then the rest will be smooth sailing.

And smooth sailing it was. Over these past three months, Andrea managed several Big Omaha responsibilities, such as our PR efforts and attendee list, she maintained our Videos and Events pages on Silicon Prairie News, and, as mentioned, she contributed articles, 26 of them.

Above all, she was great to work with, her outgoing and laid-back personality meshed well with the other five us in the office. The only point of contention: She likes Nickelback.

Jokes aside, Andrea will be missed here and we know there’s a company out there on the Silicon Prairie that will be lucky to hire her. If you’d like to speak with Andrea or receive a copy of her resume, which includes experience at the Omaha World-Herald and the Henry Doorly Zoo, contact her at andrea@siliconprairienews.com. Jeff, Dusty or I would be happy to serve as a reference, as well.

Thanks for your hard work Andrea! We look forward to your future articles and visits to our office.
