David Milligan & Kevin West give the rundown on patents
At last month's Midlands Venture Forum gathering, David Milligan and Kevin West, both patent attorneys at Advent IP, gave a 25-minute presentation on patents.
In his opening remarks, Milligan introduced their talk with a one-sentence summary. "We're basically going to go through what we would consider kind of an assessment of what your initial meeting with a patent attorney would look like."
The two touch on the basics of a patent, the clearance and protection of one, the use of a patentability search, the typical cost of filing a patent and more.

DMill is the man to see on this stuff. Bydalek at Kutak is good, too. Both of them are equal to talent you'd see on the coasts. Like everything else in Omaha-- we don't have as deep a bench as the coasts, but our top-line talent is as good as theirs.
