In addition to Spoon (below), MAHA Music Festival released three more bands that will be playing at this year’s music festival on July 24: The Faint, an indie band with Omaha origins, Superchunk and the Old 97’s.
According to YFC’s press release, the committee assembled the lineup to emphasize the different aspects of independent rock music, such as pop, dance, electronic, alt country and punk. Additionally, they said they were looking for artists who are known for being innovators within their genre as well as great live performers.
More national acts will likely be added in the coming weeks, and tickets for the event ($33) will be available for purchase at mahamusicfestival.com beginning Saturday, April 24 at 10 a.m. CDT.
Here are a few more notes from YFC’s press release:
Thanks to our sponsor
- The event aims to further build on Omaha’s growing reputation as a national leader in the support of independent music.
- More than 3,000 music enthusiasts flocked to MAHA’s inaugural festival in 2009, which attracted a variety of talent, including Dashboard Confessional, G. Love and Special Sauce, Big Head Todd and The Monsters, Serena Ryder, Appleseed Cast and Army Navy.
- This year, 1% Productions has partnered with MAHA’s organizers to serve as the team’s talent buyer and will assist in booking the remaining acts for the event.
- Alegent Health has signed on as MAHA’s 2010 presenting sponsor and Kum & Go will serve as the local stage sponsor.
When coupled with Des Moines’ 80/35 Music Festival taking place July 3-4, the fast-approaching summer is shaping up to be a good one for music on the Prairie.
Also of note, the title of the nonprofit behind the event, YFC, simply stands for Your Festival Committee, but their goal is a bit more elaborate:
YFC is committed to building MAHA in to an annual, multi-day event for the community, featuring music and arts in multiple venues throughout the city, culminating in a weekend, outdoor event.
