Sioux Falls’ inaugural Domain Xchange a success

Sioux Falls January 4, 2010 by John T. Meyer

You've been waiting in anticipation to hear the results from last month's Xtreme Xmas Domain Xchange in Sioux Falls. I'm here to recap an event that was like no other.

Mamas Ladas Enchiladas proved to be a perfect place for not only food, but an environment for web nerds to exchange the most random domains they could imagine. I'm not lying about random domains either. The listed domains included:

  • onlyinthedark.com
  • thiswebsiteblows.com
  • 1888URGreat.com
  • youstinktoday.com
  • thefacebookfriends.com
  • fuzzytingles.com
  • gobouncethis.com
  • thisisthedomainthatneverendsitgoesonandonmyfriendwherewillitend.com

The eight domains were selected in the first round by the six people in attendance and the two guests who were following along in the Ustream chat room. After drawing a new order prior round two, participants began to steal domains trying to go home with that must-have URL.

All in all, the event was a success and everyone enjoyed the creativity and randomness of the domains. Conversation quickly turned to what people may do with their new domains and even more importantly what the original owner was planning to do when they purchased the domain.

Brian Rupert, who left with the domain thiswebsiteblows.com, was debating between actually showcasing terrible websites to simply making the site a fan that is constantly blowing. Either way, Rupert guaranteed he would utilize his new domain. Ideas were brewing for all so I will have to follow the domains a few months from now.

I've already received a few requests to make the Domain Xchange an annual event, so mark your calendars for 2010, or perhaps we'll have to host an Silicon Prairie News domain exchange.
