Inspired by Andy Brudtkuhl’s post, 5 Reasons To Attend Highlight Midwest In Des Moines #hmdm, I’ve written my own.

Before you read mine, however, make sure to pay a visit to Andy’s site to see his in its entirety. Here’s a rundown of them:

  1. Party
  2. Killer Presentations
  3. Keynote Presentations
  4. Get Interviewed
  5. Meet People

And here are mine:

1. Des Moines

My first trip to Des Moines, when I was in college, was to partake in festivities surrounding the Drake Relays. Needless to say, it was a blast. I’ve been back a few times since, but each time I haven’t seen too much of the city. I’m especially looking forward to checking out the venue, the Des Moines Social Club. The video on the About page of their website intrigued me: desmoinessocialclub.org/about/us.

2. Des Moinesians

And Kansas Citians (is that what you call yourselves?). There will be a great group of attendees from Des Moines, Kansas City, and Omaha, as well as smaller cities throughout the Midwest.

3. Presentations

I enjoy hearing about new companies and products coming out of the Midwest, and this event will be sure to please. Here are a few presentations I hope to catch: Daniel Shipton & Neil Roberts of BitMethod, Ben Milne of Dwolla, and Ben McDougal of Jet Set Studio.

4. Talk to SPN

Thanks for the shout out on your #4, Andy. Look out for the SPN crew – Jeff, Dusty, Geoff, and me — we might have camera in hand, ready to grab an interview with you.

5. Experience it

Even though I was able to watch videos from last year’s coference, I’m still bummed I wasn’t able to attend it. It’s certainly on my calendar this year, and I’m quite excited.

Is it on yours? If not, check out highlightmidwest.org for more details or view an interview Geoff Wood conducted with this year’s organizer, Rob Jensen.
